Whats the use of unix as well as shell Scrpiting(PERL) in sw Testing Prospective?
As we all are familiar QTP is used to validate UI Validation .Load Runner is used to Check Virtual User and all .So i could understand where QTP/Manual/Load Runner fits in software Testing World.
But i am still dont know where unix as well as shell Scrpiting(PERL) find its place in testing world? Could any1 assist me to understand this very clearly ?
So please help me understand this with how and where it finds its place in Software Testing

Thanks,
It's a nice question and demands a full blog post, probably i will write about it sometime...

but in short...in terms of testing I can say that Shell, Perl and all these scripting languages can help you to automate tasks which you find yourself doing again and again. huh ...Did you feel some hint of testing?

QTP is just one of the automation testing tools. Smaller organizations are not able to incorporate these tools, given the cost factor involved.

I have seen people who have created their own in house functional testing tools in Perl and they were a huge success for them.
thanks a lot Ankur to you.It gave me immense pleasure that very soon u r going to start thread for the same.It would really helpful for other too.

Why i ask this question since now a day so many company are looking these skill set as a mendatory skill set for tester. So i really have no idea why they actually looking for this.So i thought i would this question .
Hi Ankur,
Could we install PERL on Windows Platform or i mean to ask could we run PERL scripts on Windows platfom after installing PERL like we do install QTP on windows platform and carry out our testing task?
Regards,
Rahul
