Is there a certain file in a QTP test folder which can be double-clicked to open QTP to run that script? (This would help avoid problems of Active Directory actually pointing QTP to a different path with an outdated script.)

You can use AOM to open QTP and run a script. The .vbs script inside this post [https://www.learnqtp.com/how-to-run-qtp-...uled-time/] might help you.
