Actually QTP does not support tabbed browsing. Try disabling tabbed browsing in Internet Explorer Tools->Internet Options->Settings in Tabs pane

Actually I am using IE7 and ur lines work for me.
Even after disabling u did not get this then just try

SystemUtil.Run "http://www.google.com"
