External component has thrown an exception.
#1
Solved: 9 Years, 9 Months, 4 Weeks ago
Hi All,

I am getting to be somewhat frustrated with UFT.
This morning I started the development of a new test.
I had run 11 other tests using UFT 11.5) on a Win XP system and IE 8.
All those 11 test were able to be opened and still can be.

The one I have started development on this morning was closed approx 2 hours ago when I went to lunch. No issues with shutting down UFT.

After coming back from lunch, I started UFT and attempted to open the test I was developing.

Unfortunately I am not able to. Uft throws up a "External component has thrown an exception." error and I am unable to open that test.

The test is being stored in a seperate local folder not on a LAN drive.
I am not using QC to store and run the test.

I have tried copying the folder to another PC and the same issue occurs.
It does not appear to be a hardware problem.

The strange thing is that sometimes it will randomly open but all that is displayed in the window that shows the run order diagram, is the "Start" and "End" ovals with an arrow between - none of the developed Actions are being displayed.

Details from the error window are as follows:

Hi All,

We have been able to work out what has been causing the issue.
The "Default.xls" found in the root folder for the test, is being corrupted for some reason.
The work around is to replace that "Default.xls" with a good one.
I have created a dummy test that has a clean "Default.xls".
I replaced the corrupt one with that clean one and it now opens with no issues.

Cheers,
Mike Shy
